Quality

The Integrated Quality, Environmental, Health and Safety System

The implementation of the integrated quality, environmental, health and safety system is a result of the necessity to deliver products that satisfy the requirements of our customers. The system ensures that the products comply with the requirements of all involved parties, as well as with the legal regulation in force. Dunapack Packaging in Romania is continuously improving the environmental performances of its products and it is constantly controlling the risks of health and safety at work.

By implementing this integrated quality, environmental, health and safety system, Dunapack Packaging in Romania ensures:

  • A constant quality level of products and services.
  • Continuous improvement of organization processes, environmental requirements and the level of health and safety at work (improving the quality of services, pollution and workplace accident prevention).

Technical Products Quality Control

The quality control department carries out a series of quality tests for paper, cardboard and even for the glue used in production to ensure that the client receives the expected product every time they place an order. Tests can also be conducted on packages used by potential clients in order to make recommendations regarding the used material.

The following tests are performed in our labs:

ECT (Edge Crush Test) - resistance to crushing on the edge of  hecorrugated cardboard, a test performed daily for each manufactured type of corrugated cardboard. It is one of the most important tests because there is a direct correspondence between this rating and BCT (box compression test).

BCT (Box Compression Test) - resistance to compression, the most important test for the finished product (box), that provides data regarding the ideal weight, load and palletizing.

RCT (Ring Crush Test) - a test that provides information regarding future resistance of the corrugated cardboard, considering the different types of plain layers paper used.

FCT and CMT (Flat Crush of Corrugating Medium) - they are important for the resistance calculus of the flute itself (CMT) and of the flute in the final structure of the corrugated cardboard (FCT). They are useful to define the optimal conditions for boxes loading, transport, lateral perforation risk of packaging, especially when packing fragile products (furniture, glass, artwork, etc.)

SCT (Short-Span Compression Test) - it is a test which determines the compressive strength of paper in compression mode.

The determination of the paper and starch humidity by using the drying method is conducted in the lab's drying closet, by weighing and then evaluating the differences before and after drying. The same procedure it is used to determine the dry substance content in starch glue. These data are essential for the right glue preparation and therefore for obtaining a resistant and quality compliant corrugated cardboard.

The Cobb number offers important information regarding the capacity of each type of plain layer paper to absorb water. This information is essential for the clients who sell frozen or refrigerated products, or products which need to be transported in high humidity conditions.

Resistance to crushing is performed on corrugated cardboard and on top linerboard and it is important especially for packaging with risk of perforation during handling or transport.

Corrugated cardboard and paper thickness is determined by thre thickness gauge or by the micrometer, and it is an important parameter for the final product’s resistance al9ong with the quality of paper used during production. It is a parameter that depends on the paper thickness, the glue layer applied when gluing, the cardboard type and the flute type.

The weighing (grams/square meter) of paper is performed on analytical balance with pre-cut samples. It is an important parameter for the pallet load. Lately, the tendency has been to use lighter paper types while keeping the quality parameters, for economical and environmental reasons.

All the tests in the QC labs are performed under controlled climate (23±1ºC temperature and 50±2% humidity, compliant with SR EN 20187/1997).

Quality, Environment and EHS

In context of quality, environment and health and safety policy, our aim is to create value and to continuously improve our products and services in order to grow customer satisfaction by meeting:

  • Customer expectations with product quality, skilled human resources, technical and sales support
  • Shareholder expectations by close cooperation with our suppliers, high productivity, investments and competitiveness
  • Employee expectations with controlled working conditions, safe work environment and pro-active risk determination actions, by preventing occupational illness and workplace accidents
  • Environmental requirements by preventing pollution and efficient use of sustainable resources
  • Community expectations by being socially responsible and pursuing ethical values
  • Requirements of our country by complying with local, international, legal and other compliance responsibilities
